Inspired by real-life experiences, There’s No Shame in Wanting is a heartfelt picture book about understanding our desires and finding the courage to express them.

When Abigail attends a costume party dressed as a ballerina, an unexpected interaction with a friend leaves her wondering: Is it always okay to ask for what you want? Through honest conversations with her mom and sister, Abigail begins to understand that wanting something is a natural and important part of being human.

Together, they explore the difference between feeling heard and being made to feel ashamed. Along the way, Abigail learns that while we may not always get what we want, there is no shame in wanting—after all, how can we receive something that we haven’t asked for?

Positioned within the growing SEL (Social Emotional Learning) space for children ages 5–10, the book is written with the hope that both children and adults walk away with a deeper understanding of themselves, their voice, and their desires.
